Easy vs Difficult

Our logic mind tends to categorise things as ‘easy’ or ‘difficult’ most of the time. It’s a matter of perspective and opinion. In yoga, we find some poses more difficult than others. Why do we tend to criticise ourselves for not being strong or flexible enough sometimes?

Yoga is so much more than the way a pose looks like. It’s more about your mental and emotional state during your practice. If a pose becomes easy, you will enjoy it as a way of relaxing your body and mind, but soon enough you will find your way to something more challenging, which will become extremely rewarding.

We want to feel proud of ourselves, but we shouldn’t let this desire to make us feel wrong or inferior when things are not as expected. The same happens with motherhood and other circumstances in life. Every easy or difficult thing is an opportunity to observe ourselves as part of the life cycle.

The way we see things today might change tomorrow, it depends on our perspective. It’s ok to choose to see things as difficult if that’s the way we feel. We must embrace the feeling, and we will figure out something so much greater after we allow the experience to happen the way it is for us.

There are many types of experiences, and we don’t always agree on what is easy or difficult. For example, I’ve considered driving lessons terribly annoying, stressful and difficult for a couple of years. However, for others, driving is nothing to be concerned about. On the other hand, I notice now how my perspective is changing every time I drive without making the same old mistakes. It’s an opportunity to feel proud of myself, but also to realise that I don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

What is easy for some, is difficult for others (and vice-versa).  All experiences are different from one to another. We must embrace our weaknesses as well as our strengths. Let’s remember to love ourselves the way we are, stop judging others, and be mindful of the dark and bright gifts of life.
